Connecticut Kratom Legal Status Update
Connecticut is in the process of banning kratom. Public Act 25-101 (HB 6855) was signed into law, granting the Department of Consumer Protection the authority to schedule kratom as a controlled substance. The Department has since proposed regulations to classify kratom as a Schedule I controlled substance and held a public hearing on the matter.
The database states kratom is currently LEGAL in Connecticut. However, recent legislative action has put in motion the process of banning kratom. While the bill enabling this was signed in June 2025, the official Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection website confirmed on October 7, 2025, that kratom is 'not currently a scheduled controlled substance' and that proposed regulations to designate it as Schedule 1 were open for public comment, with a public hearing held on October 15, 2025. This indicates a clear shift from 'LEGAL' to a 'PENDING' status for a ban.
