California Kratom Legal Status Update
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued a statewide advisory declaring kratom and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) products illegal to sell or manufacture across the state, effective October 24, 2025.
The California Department of Public Health issued a statewide consumer warning on October 24, 2025, declaring that foods, dietary supplements, and medical drugs containing kratom or 7-OH are dangerous and illegal to sell or manufacture in California. The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is enforcing this prohibition, stating that ABC licensees must cease sales immediately and will be subject to disciplinary action. This establishes a statewide ban on sale and manufacture, changing the status from 'RESTRICTED' to 'BANNED'.
